Conor Whipple joined Dan Chemotti's staff at the University of Richmond in August of 2025.
During his first season at Richmond in 2026, Whipple helped guide the Spiders to a 14–2 overall record, a perfect 6–0 mark in Atlantic 10 play, and a second consecutive Atlantic 10 regular-season championship. Richmond secured its third conference tournament title in four years with an 8–6 victory over Saint Joseph's and earned the first NCAA Tournament seed and home game in program history. The Spiders reached No. 1 in all three national polls for the first time in program history, becoming the first team in Richmond Athletics history to earn a No. 1 national ranking at the highest level of collegiate competition, and spent much of the season ranked among the nation's top five programs.
Richmond opened the year with a program-record 9–0 start and defeated three nationally ranked opponents, including No. 5 Cornell, No. 13 Virginia and No. 13 Georgetown. The Spiders only losses of the season came to eventual Final Four teams in Duke and national runner up Notre Dame.
With Whipple's help, Richmond finished third nationally in points per game (25.0), fourth in scoring margin (+7.40), fourth in scoring offense (15.47 goals per game), fifth in winning percentage (.882), and eighth in shot percentage (.340). Under Whipple, Aidan O'Neil repeated as Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year, and Joe Sheridan was named Midfielder of the Year. Additioanly, O'Neil and Sheridan were named All-Americans along with First Team All-Atlantic 10 midfielder Gavin Creo. Lucas Littlejohn was named a First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection.Â
Before joining RIT, Whipple spent five seasons on the coaching staff at Bucknell University, serving as the face-off coordinator and later as the offensive and recruiting coordinator. Under his guidance, Bucknell developed a top-20 extra-man offense, set a program record for goals in a game against Loyola, and saw multiple offensive players earn All-Conference honors. He also coached Nick Crovatto to a program-record 175 face-off wins. The Bison made Patriot League Tournament appearances in both 2019 and 2022 during his tenure.
As a player, Whipple had a standout career at the University of Tampa, where he was a four-time USILA All-American. He graduated as the program’s all-time leader in points (354) and assists (185), while also ranking second in goals (169), games played (75), and games started (72). In 2017, he notched 99 points—including a school-record 60 assists—tying the highest single-season point total in program history.
Whipple was a three-time Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year and led the Spartans to four straight conference tournament titles. Tampa appeared in the NCAA Division II Tournament all four years of his career, advancing to the semifinals in 2014, 2016, and 2017. He was also a USILA Scholar All-American and a three-year captain. He was drafted by the Florida Launch in the 2017 Major League Lacrosse Draft.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in sports management in 2017 and later completed a master’s in entrepreneurship from Tampa in 2018.
Coaching is in Whipple’s DNA. His father, Rory Whipple, is the all-time winningest coach in NCAA Division II men’s lacrosse history and coached Conor during his college career. The Whipple family’s coaching lineage extends further, with multiple relatives involved in collegiate lacrosse coaching.
