Mike Goldberg enters his third season as the Volunteer Assistant Coach for the Spiders. He will help coach the catchers as well as coordinate numerous off-field activities for head coach Tracy Woodson.
Goldberg came to the Spiders after serving as the Director of Baseball Operations at VCU, as well as being an assistant coach and camp director for Gastonia Grizzlies. At Gastonia, Goldberg helped the team win 29 games, an organization-best, and for the best record in the first half of the season to clinch a playoff berth.
In the summer of 2015, Goldberg served as the first head coach of the Charlottesville Tom Sox of the Valley League.
Goldberg, a 2014 graduate of Davidson College, played four years for the Wildcats. During his senior year, he served as the team’s closer during the winningest season in program history. Goldberg was a versatile player for head coach Dick Cooke, starting at five different positions during his career.
He finished his career at Davidson ranked fifth all-time in career saved and third all-time on the single season list with eight in 2014.
Goldberg was selected as a 2011 All Start in the SCBL after a standout campaign with the Morganton Aggies – the only SCBL team to crack Perfect Game’s Annual Top 25 Summer Collegiate Teams list.
A Richmond native, Goldberg played four seasons at Benedictine High School for former Richmond Spider standout Sean Ryan. At Benedictine, Goldberg holds the school record for consecutive games played at 102.
