WASHINGTON, D.C. - University of Richmond sophomore forward Jill Murphy (Williamsburg, Va./Jamestown) netted the game-winner in the second overtime to lift the visiting Spiders over the Georgetown Hoyas, 2-1 Wednesday afternoon at Kehoe Field.
Richmond would get on the board first as junior Heather Rice (Oklahoma City, Okla./Heritage Hall) converted a penalty corner at the 33:18 mark. The goal was Rices' 18th score of the season. Megan Conway and Holly Chase assisted on the goal.
With just over 10 minutes left in the contest, Georgetown would knot the score when freshman Leeanne Rizzo knocked the ball in off a scramble to tie the game at 1-1. The score would remain tied until Murphy's close range shot found the back of the net in the second overtime.
Richmond improves to 7-9 overall. The Spiders entertain the top-ranked Old Dominion Lady Monarchs on Saturday, October 21. Game time is 12:00.
