RICHMOND, Va. - Old Dominion senior midfielder Martina DiGiacomo (Mendoza, Argentina/Santa Maria Goretti) netted four goals and added an assist to lead the Lady Monarchs to a 9-1 win over conference foe Richmond Saturday at Crenshaw Field. The victory was Old Dominion's 14th straight win.
The Richmond defense kept Old Dominion scoreless until the 23:23 mark when DiGiacomo rebound goal found the back of the net. Richmond would answer less than 10 minutes later when forward Heather Rice (Oklahoma City, Okla./Heritage Hall) scored her 19th goal of the season off of a penalty corner to tie the contest at 1-1. Megan Conway (Forty-Fort, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) and Holly Chase (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield) assisted on the play. The Lady Monarchs would strike quickly, as less than a minute later, Tiffany Snow's (Escondido, Cal./San Pasqual) goal at the 13:50 mark put Old Dominion out front to stay. Old Dominion would add three more goals in the final 7:49 of the half to post a 5-1 lead at the break.
The Lady Monarchs would tally four more goals in the second stanza. DiGiacomo garnered her fourth of the game on a 16 yard bullet with 17:30 remaining to give Old Dominion a comfortable 8-1 advantage. Old Dominion sophomore Tiffany Snow collected one goal and two assists on the day while junior Laura Steadman added two goals. Richmond senior goalkeeper Brooke Fuller (Ashland, Mass./Ashland) played magnificent in the cage collecting a career-high 20 saves.
Richmond falls to 7-10, 1-4 while Old Dominion improves to 16-1, 5-0 on the season. The Spiders
