Richmond Drops 2-1 Double Overtime Decision to La Salle

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. --- The La Salle Explorers posted a 2-1 double overtime victory over the Richmond Spiders in college field hockey action on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Spiders fell to 8-7 overall and 1-2 in the Atlantic 10.
Richmond senior forward Heather Rice (Oklahoma City, Okla./Heritage Hall) scored her conference leading 11th goal of the season, knotting the score at 1-1 at the 11:47 mark in the first half.
In the second stanza, the Spiders missed out of several scoring opportunities outshooting the Explorers, 14-6. Both teams were awarded penalty strokes in the second half however neither was able to capitalize.
After a scoreless first sudden death overtime period, La Salle sophomore Tracy Guenther decided the contest with 4:21 remaining in the overtime and lifting the home team to a 2-1 victory.
