Women's Tennis Has Another Winning Weekend

NORFOLK, Va. - The University of Richmond women's tennis team played another weekend of winning tennis as the Spiders finished the East Coast Collegiate Championships with a record of 10-6 in singles competition and 2-2 in doubles action. In singles play, Richmond was led by junior Casey Cohen (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./The Bolles School) and sophomore Patty Devlin (York, Pa./York Suburban) as each had a record of 3-1 over the weekend.
After dropping her first match of the tournament, Cohen rebounded to win three straight matches and capture the Flight B Consolation bracket as she defeated Amy Behrman (Catawba), 8-3, in the finals. Devlin advanced to the finals of the Flight C singles bracket, knocking off players from George Mason and James Madison along the way, where she last a hard-fought three set match to Patricia Araujo (ODU).
In Flight A doubles competition, the combinations of Devlin and Jeannette Cluskey (Minneapolis, Minn/Edina) and Vanessa Bagnato (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) and Courtney Klein (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville East) each finished 1-1.
Richmond will return to action on Oct. 27-30 as the Spiders travel to Philadelphia, Pa. for the ITA Individual Regionals.
