Swimming Defeats Davidson, 198-101

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, VA. -- The University of Richmond continued its strong start with a 198-101 win against Davidson College on November 3 in The Robins Center Natatorium.
The Spiders won 12 total events, sweeping the top three positions in the 1,000-yard freestyle, 3-meter dive and the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team of Calla DeRuosi, Kimberly Green, Leslie Moatz and Mary Adams finished the race in 1:40.52, besting their teammates by a little more than one second.
Senior Kristin Newkirk enjoyed another strong meet, winning the 200-yard butterfly (2:09.78) and the 100-yard butterfly. She also won two events on Friday night against College of Charleston.
Freshman Mary Adams also won two events for Richmond. She won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.67 and then captured the 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 5:05.37.
In the diving competition, junior Katie Shipe was no match for her competition. She won the 1-meter dive with a point total of 227.95 and then won the 3-meter competition with a total of 225.30.
Also winning individual events for the Spiders: Erin Lears in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:27.38), Casey Dluhos in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.34), Julie Waizenhofer in the 50-yard freestyle (24.97), Maureen Sabri in the 100-yard freestyle (54.60) and Elizabeth Cook in the 400-yard individual medley (4:33.14).
Richmond (5-1) returns to the pool with a meet at 5 p.m. on November 8 in Williambsburg, Va. William & Mary and Georgia Southern will contest the Spiders.
