Richmond Swimming and Diving Falls To George Washington, 161-136

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The University of Richmond women's swimming team posted six first place finishes, but it was not enough as George Washington posted a 161-136 victory over the Spiders in dual meet action At the Smith Center.
Richmond's performances were highlighted by sophomore Katie Shipe's (Mendon, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) score of 302.65 in the one meter diver, which qualifies her for NCAA Zone competition. The Spiders (7-5) also notched victories in the 200 Butterfly as junior Kristin Newkirk (Marietta, Ga./Alan C. Pope) clocked 2.11:39, while freshman Maureen Sabri (Chambersburg, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) claimed the 50 Freestyle in :25.12. In addition, sophomore Elizabeth Cook (Richmond, Va./The Collegiate School) captured top honors in the 100 Freestyle in :54.37. Cook combined with newcomers Lyndsey Delquadro (Centreville, Va./Centreville) and Julie Waizenhofer (Mason, Ohio/Mason) as well as senior Rebecca Halsey (Riverside, Conn./Greenwich) to win the 200 Medley Relay (1:53.73). Meanwhile, Newkirk teamed with junior Kristin Cavanah (North Palm Beach, Fla./Benjamin School), Sabri and sophomore Kimberly Green (Washington, D.C./Good Counsel) to post a victory in the 200 Medley Relay (1:53.73).
Richmond returns to action on Friday, February 2, hosting Old Dominion at 4 p.m. and will face Navy on Saturday, February 3 at 1 p.m. Both meets take place at the Robins Center Natatorium on the campus of the University of Richmond.
