Spiders Slip Past Lady Monarchs, 151-149

RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond women's swimming and diving team took first and second place in the 400 free relay, the final event of the meet, to edge Old Dominion University 151-149 this afternoon at the Robins Center Pool.
Richmond took first place in just six of the 16 events. Junior Kristin Newkirk (Mariettta, Ga./Alan C. Pope) recorded a pair of wins for the Spiders. She won the 100 freestyle in 53.46 and the 100 butterfly in 58.74.
Freshman Maureen Sabri (Chambersburg, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) won the 50 freestyle for Richmond in 24.94.
Sophomore Jamie D'Agostino (Ardsley, N.Y./Our Lady of Victory) recorded three wins for the Monarchs. She won the 200 freestyle (1:55.56), the 500 freestyle (5:10.74) and the 1000 freestyle (10:37.20).
The Spiders conclude their regular season tomorrow afternoon, February 3, with a 1:00 p.m. meeting with Navy at the Robins Center Pool.
