CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The University of Miami women's tennis team claimed the doubles point and swept all six singles matches to best Richmond, 7-0 Saturday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
After jumping out to a 1-0 advantage in doubles play, all six singles matches were closely contested as the top four spots took three sets to decide. At the No. 1 spot, Miami's Katia Bogomolova outlasted Spider sophomore Jodi Kenoyer (Lighthouse Point, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons), 6-0, 4-6, 6-4. Two and three singles were also close as Hurricane Marcy Hora bested Jeanette Cluskey (Minneapolis, Minn./Edina), 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (5) at the No. 2 spot, while Alanna Broderick posted a 6-3, 2-6, 6-0 victory over Vanessa Bagnato (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) at the No. 3 position. Despite claiming the first set, 6-3 at No. 4, Richmond sophomore Monika Peetes (Tallinn, Estonia/Tallinn Science), Miami's Lauren Scaglione responded to win the next two sets, 6-3, 6-4. Despite two tiebreakers at Nos. 5 and 6 singles, Miami's Siehem Bennacer and Igna deVilliers each recorded victories to complete the sweep.
The Spiders return to action on Sunday, February 11, visiting Florida Atlantic University at 2 p.m.
