MIAMI, Fla. - The University of Richmond women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 35 Florida International at University Park.
The Golden Panthers swept six singles matches and won the doubles point to notch the victory. Two of the singles matches were decided in straight sets as sophomore Jodi Kenoyer (Lighthouse Point, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) fell to Anneliese Rose, 6-0, 1-6, 6-0 at the No. 2 spot. Meanwhile, at four singles, Richmond sophomore Casey Cohen (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) dropped a three-set decision to Mariana Faustinelli, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
In other action, FIU's Mari Toro bested Spider freshman Jeanette Cluskey (Minneapolis, Minn./Edina) in straight sets (6-2, 6-2) at the top spot, while Spider sophomore Vanessa Bagnato (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) fell to Alexandra Guzman, 6-1, 6-1. Cristina Campana defeated Spider newcomer Patty Devlin (York, Pa./York Suburban) at five singles (6-1, 6-3) and Golden Panther Mei Ly defeated Michele Koclanes (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial), 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 6 spot.
At the top doubles position, Rose and Toro defeated Cluskey and Kenoyer, 8-2, while Guzman and Campana registered an 8-3 win over Bagnato and sophomore Monika Peetes (Tallinn, Estonia/Tallinn Science School) at two doubles. Faustinelli teamed with Nazly Elsawaf to post an 8-2 win over Devlin and Koclanes at three doubles.
Richmond (3-6) returns to action on Friday, March 16, taking on the University of Pennsylvania at 1 p.m.
