Monarchs Maul Spiders 15-5

Richmond, Virginia - Every Old Dominion batter had at least one hit and at least one run as the Monarchs used 18 hits in a 15-5 Colonial Athletic Association win over the University of Richmond Spiders this afternoon at Pitt Field. Old Dominion is now 7-14 overall and 1-1 in the CAA. Richmond is 9-10 overall and 1-1 in the league.
The Monarchs got their leadoff man on in each of the first four innings and each came around to score. Old Dominion scored single runs in the first and second innings and two each in the third and fourth innings. Richmond scored once in the first on an RBI triple by sophomore shortstop David Reaver (Union Bridge, Md./Linganore). The Spiders scored four times in the bottom of the fifth, highlighted by two-run singles by sophomore first baseman Vito Chiaravalloti (Middletown, N.J./ Christian Brothers) and by freshman outfielder A.J. Board (Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft). Richmond trailed 6-5 after five innings.
Old Dominion scored a run in the sixth on an RBI single by freshman first baseman Mark Michael (Gobbstown, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) to take a 7-5 lead. The Monarchs then sent 12 men to the plate in the eighth, using seven hits, one walk and one error to score eight times and take a 15-5 advantage. The big hits in the inning were a two-run single by junior outfielder Travis Silver (Weaverville, N.C./Buncombe) and a three-run homer by freshman outfielder Matt Moye (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk), his second home run of the season.
Junior lefthander Jonathan Tinkham (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) came in in relief for Old Dominion in the fifth and hurled the final 4.2 innings for the Monarchs, allowing three hits, no runs, one walk and he struck out seven in evening his record at 1-1.
Junior David Vilardi (Fishkill, N.Y./Arlington) had three hits, including a double, and scored three runs for Old Dominion. Sophomore catcher John Oehler (Audubon, N.J./Audubon) also had three hits and a double for the Monarchs. Reaver had a single, double and triple for the Spiders.
Richmond and Old Dominion will conclude their three-game series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Pitt Field.
