WILLIAMSBURG, Va. --- Eighth-ranked William & Mary recorded a season-best 16 goals as the Tribe registered a 16-3 victory over the Richmond Spiders Colonial Athletic Association women's lacrosse Tuesday afternoon at Barksdale Field on the campus of the College of William & Mary. Tribe senior Lindsey Lowman, the CAA Player of the Week, tallied three goals and a school record tying assists on the afternoon.
The Spiders would get on the board first as senior Jessie Popham (Arnold, Md./Severn) found the back of the net to put the visitors ahead 1-0 less than two minutes into the contest. Richmond would not hold the lead for long as the Tribe rolled off the next three scores of the game with Lowman scoring two and assisting on the third. Richmond cut into W&M's lead with 15:03 remaining in the first half when junior attacker Carrie Aitken (Paxton, Mass./St. Mark's School) fired in a Alexis Brandolini (Berwyn, Pa./Notre Dame Academy) pass to cut the deficit to one, 3-2. William & Mary took over from that point, netting six straight goals to lead 9-2 at intermission.
In the second half, Richmond would tally the first score of the half, a Brandolini score, at the 26:49 mark but it would be as close at the Spiders would get in the half. William & Mary ripped Richmond for seven more goals in the second stanza in route to its fifth CAA win of the season. With the loss, the Spiders fall to 1-11, 1-5 CAA.
