WASHINGTON, D.C. --University of Richmond attackers Alexis Brandolini (Berwyn, Pa./Notre Dame Academy) and Carrie Aitken (Paxton, Mass./St. Mark's School) each scored three goals to lead Richmond past Howard University, 13-6 Friday afternoon on the campus of Howard University. Nine different Spider players scored a goal.
Howard took the early lead netting a goal less than a minute into the contest however Richmond would respond as sophomore Amy Stringer (Towson, Md./Towson) scored her first goal of the season. Brandolini and Aitken tallied goals at the 24:37 and the 19:17 mark, respectively as the Spiders jumped out to an early 3-1 lead they would not relinquish. A host of Spiders found the back of the net in the last 15 minutes of the first half, as five different players found the back of the net to push the Spiders lead to four. Senior Lacy Pica's (Cockeysville, Md./Notre Dame Prep) goal with :50 to go in the half gave Richmond an 8-4 advantage at the half.
Two early goals to open the second half from Aitken and Brandolini pulled the Spiders out to a comfortable advantage, 10-4. Howard would score at the 18:30 mark to pull within five but that would be as close as the Bison would come.
The Spiders (2-11) return to action on Monday, April 23 as they travel to Delaware to face the Fairfield.
