Harris' Homer Leads Tribe To 6-4 Win

Richmond, Virginia - Junior shortstop Brendan Harris (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) smacked a two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning to break a 4-4 tie and lead the William & Mary Tribe to a 6-4 win over the Richmond Spiders this afternoon in a non-conference contest at Pitt Field. William & Mary raised its record to 28-17, while the Spiders fell to 24-22.
The Tribe scored a run in the top of the first as senior outfielder Stephen Booker (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) singled, moved to third on a single by freshman DH Mitch Walk (Staunton, Va./Robert E. Lee) and scored on a fielder's choice. Richmond tied the game in the bottom of the first on a leadoff single by freshman outfielder Bryan Pritz (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) and an RBI single by sophomore first baseman Vito Chiaravalloti (Middletown, N.J./Christian Brothers). Walk's RBI single in the second gave William & Mary a 2-1 lead.
The Spiders tied the game in the bottom of the fourth as senior DH John Nathans (Warwick, N.Y./Trinity Pawling) was hit by a pitch, stole second base and scored on a single by freshman third baseman Bobby LeNoir (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum). The Tribe scored single runs in the sixth and seventh and grabbed a 4-2 lead. Richmond again tied the game in the bottom of the seventh. LeNoir had an RBI double and scored himself on an error to knot the game at 4-4.
William & Mary had its winning rally in the top of the eighth. With two outs, Walk doubled and Harris homered to left, his 14th home run of the season.
Walk was 4-5 with one run and two RBI for the Tribe. Sophomore third baseman Trey Wakefield (Dallas, Texas/Lake Highland) doubled in the third to extend his hitting streak to 21 games, tying a Tribe record. Pritz had three hits and scored a run for the Spiders.
Richmond will now break for final exams. The Spiders return to action on Saturday, May 5 at 7:00 p.m. at The Diamond against VCU. It will mark Richmond's final Colonial Athletic Association series. The Spiders and the Rams will conclude the series with a doubleheader on Sunday, May 6, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
