Tidball, McGirr Help Spiders Top Towson 7-5

Towson, Maryland - Freshman outfielder Adam Tidball (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) had three hits, scored two runs and knocked in one run as the Richmond Spiders defeated the Towson Tigers 7-5 this afternoon in Towson, Maryland. The Spiders evened their record at 25-25, while Towson fell to 32-20.
Richmond scored the game's first run in the top of the third. Freshman outfielder Bryan Pritz (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) reached on an error with two outs, stole second base, moved to third on an error and scored on a double by sophomore shortstop David Reaver (Union Bridge, Md./Linganore). The Spiders added to their lead in the fourth as Tidball led off with a single and moved to second on an error. He scored on a double by freshman outfielder Chris Dolan (Holmdel, N.J./Christian Brothers), who scored himself on a single by senior catcher John Nathans (Warwick, N.Y./Trinity Pawling). Richmond led 3-0 after four innings.
Towson tallied a run in the bottom of the sixth as junior outfielder Gregg Davies doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly. The Spiders scored twice in the seventh. Freshman third baseman Bobby LeNoir (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) led off with a walk and moved to second on a pinch-hit single by senior Manny Cicchiello (Weathersfield, Conn./Loomis-Chaffee). Senior second baseman Matt Reid (Richmond, Virginia/Collegiate) moved each man up with a sacrifice bunt. Pritz had an RBI single to plate LeNoir and Cicchiello scored on a single by Reaver to give the Spiders a 5-1 lead.
The Tigers got a three-run homer from Davies in the bottom of the seventh to narrow the gap to 5-4. Tidball singled and scored in the eighth and had an RBI double in the ninth to push Richmond's margin to 7-4. Towson added a solo homer by freshman pinch-hitter Bobby Paduano in the bottom of the ninth to make the final score 7-5 in favor of the Spiders.
Richmond sophomore righthander Mike McGirr (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) was the starter and winner for the Spiders, going 5.0 innings with three hits, all singles, no runs, two walks and one strikeout.
Richmond will play at Maryland on Thursday, May 10 at 2:30 p.m.
