Reaver's Four RBI Lead Spiders Past Terps 13-6

College Park, Maryland - Sophomore shortstop David Reaver (Union Bridge, Md./Linganore) had three hits, scored twice and knocked in four runs as the Richmond Spiders topped the Maryland Terrapins 13-6 this afternoon in College Park, Maryland. The Spiders improved to 26-25, while Maryland fell to 16-35.
Richmond scored a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. Sophomore first baseman Vito Chiaravalloti (Middletown, N.J./Christian Brothers) led off with a single to right. One out later, senior DH Manny Cicchiello (Weathersfield, Conn./Loomis-Chaffee) tripled to right, his first career triple, to scored Chiaravalloti with the game's first run. Cicchiello would score on a single by freshman third baseman Bobby LeNoir (Wilmington, Del./Salesianum) to give the Spiders a 2-0 lead. Maryland tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run homer by sophomore outfielder Edwin Thompson, his first of the season.
The Spiders blew the game open by scoring four runs in the fifth and another four in the sixth. Reaver had an RBI single and scored a run in the fifth. Cicchiello had his second RBI triple of the game in the fifth and also scored. In the sixth, Chiaravalloti had a two-run double and freshman catcher Adam Tidball (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Prep) had a two-run homer, his ninth of the season, and Richmond led 10-2.
Senior third baseman Sean Lomas had a three-run homer for the Terps in the seventh to make the score 10-5. Reaver had a bases-clearing double in the ninth to give the Spiders 13 runs. Maryland added one in the bottom of the ninth to make the final score 13-6.
Chiaravalloti had three hits, three runs and three RBI for the Spiders. Cicchiello had three hits, scored twice and knocked in a pair.
Freshman lefthander Thomas Martin (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) was the starter and winner for the Spiders, going 6.0 innings with four hits, two runs, one walk and three strikeouts.
Richmond will host Maryland on Friday, May 11 at 3:00 p.m. and on Saturday, May 12 at 1:00 p.m. to conclude its 2001 season.
