Boone, N.C. - The Richmond field hockey team improved its record to 2-0, defeating Radford 2-0 at Appalachian State on a rainy Saturday afternoon. The Spiders received two goals from senior Heather Rice (Oklahoma City, Okla./Heritage Hall).
Richmond got on the board at the 21:52 mark in the first half as Rice scored on a goal assisted by fellow seniors Leslie Ramich (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes) and Holly Chase (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield). The second goal of the afternoon was unassisted and came at the 37:02 mark of the second half as Rice slipped the ball past the Radford goalkeeper.
Spider freshman goalkeeper Jennifer Alpert (Rockville, Md./Wootton) recorded two saves to post her first collegiate shutout. Richmond outshot Radford 10 to six and was led by Rice's four shots.
Richmond will next meet homestanding Appalachian State at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 2 in Kidd Brewer Stadium.
