UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - University of Richmond sophomore tennis player Jeannette Cluskey (Minneapolis, Minn./Edina) was honored as the women's tennis Player of the Week in the Atlantic 10 for the week ending September 23. Cluskey was a perfect 4-0 in singles play over the weekend as she captured the Second Flight in the W&M Invitational in Williamsburg, Va.
Cluskey, who played primarily at the No. 1 spot last spring as a freshman, began the tournament by defeating the third seed in the Second Flight, Perrine Pernin (Arizona), 4-6, 6-1, 7-5. From there, the sophomore standout had little trouble the rest of the weekend as Saturday she defeated Elizabeth Proctor (Wake Forest) 6-3, 6-1 and Pamela Floro (Maryland) 6-1, 6-0. In Sunday's championship match, Cluskey registered an impressive 6-3, 6-1 victory over Marie-Pier Pouliot (Arizona) to capture the title of the Second Flight.
Cluskey was also involved in Flight A doubles competition as she was paired with fellow sophomore Patty Devlin (York, Pa./York Suburban). The duo went 2-1 in Williamsburg, defeating Floro/Jedrzejak (Maryland) and Sherbakov/Wei (William & Mary).
The Richmond women's tennis team returns to action this weekend as it travels to Philadelphia, Pa. to participate in the Cissie Leary Invitational from September 28-30.
