UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Richmond forward Melissa Yuppa (Fairfield, N.J.) scored two second half goals to lead the Spiders to a 3-1 victory over La Salle University this afternoon at Crenshaw Field. Richmond has won their last eight games and improves to an 11-6 overall record, 5-0 in Atlantic 10 games. La Salle falls to 3-13, 1-4 in conference play.
The Spiders struck first when Sandeep Kaur (Salford, England) scored the game's first goal at the 16:30 mark. La Salle answered within five minutes and tied the game at 1-1 after Tracy Guenther brought the ball up the field on a breakaway and connected on the goal.
In second half action, Yuppa gave the Spiders a 2-1 lead on her goal after a scramble around the box. Senior Jill Murphy (Williamsburg, Va.) assisted on the play. Richmond set the final margin at 3-1 with less than two minutes left on the clock when Yuppa was able to knock the ball into the goal off a pass from senior Sarah Adams (Tulsa, Okla.)
Richmond goalie Michelle Swartz (Severna Park, Md.) recorded two saves on the afternoon, while La Salle goalkeeper Colleen Bolger registered eleven saves.
Richmond is back in action on Sunday, October 27, when they face West Chester at noon at Crenshaw Field.
