UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Three different Spiders scored in Richmond's 3-0 victory over West Chester University this afternoon at Crenshaw Field. With the win, the Spiders improve to 12-6 on the year and lead the Atlantic 10 standings, going 6-0 in conference play. West Chester falls to 9-7 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Richmond has now won its last nine games.
Richmond took a 1-0 lead early in the game when junior Brittney Parrish (Louisville, Ky.) connected on the goal off a pass from teammate Sandeep Kaur (Salford, England).
In the second half, Spider freshman Emma Bradley (Kybybolite, South Australia) extended the lead to 2-0 with her goal at the 45:30 mark off a penalty corner. Parrish and senior Jill Murphy (Williamsburg, Va.) assisted on the play.
Richmond tallied its final goal of the day midway through the second half when Melissa Yuppa (Fairfield, N.J.) knocked a shot past the West Chester goalie.
Spider goalie Michelle Swartz (Severna Park, Md.) recorded her seventh shutout of the season and registered six saves on the afternoon. For West Chester, Carrie Hanshue made four saves.
Richmond takes on cross-town rival VCU on Wednesday, October 30 at 6:00 p.m.
