Men's Tennis Posts Solid 6-1 Victory Over West Virginia

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Coming off its first loss in over two weeks, the University of Richmond men's tennis team got back on the winning track today, posting a convincing 6-1 victory over West Virginia in a match played at the UR Tennis Complex. Junior Danny Scrafford (Centreville, Va.) led the way with a victory at both No. 2 singles and doubles, while freshman Derek Schwandt (Kennett Square, Pa.) also recorded two victories on the afternoon.
Scrafford and Schwandt teamed together at No. 2 doubles to post an 8-5 victory and then sophomore David Donn (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and freshman Jeppy Moss (Fredericksburg, Va.) won at No. 3 doubles, 8-4, to win the doubles point for Richmond. With the win, Donn and Moss improved their record to 6-0 in doubles action.
The Spiders then went on to win five of six singles matches, headed by Scrafford at the No. 2 spot who made quick work of Tony Epkey, 6-1, 6-2. Schwandt went the distance at the No. 6 position, besting J.R. Randall, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, to improve his spring record to 10-6. Freshman Matthew Cabana (Plantation, Fla.) also won in three sets, defeating Eric Kochanski in No. 5 singles action, 6-3, 1-6, 6-1. Two other Spiders cruised in straight sets, sophomore Niki Doll (Heidelberg, Germany) at the No. 3 spot and senior Todd Parker (Richmond, Va.) in the No. 4 position.
Richmond (11-7) will try to make it two-in-a-row as tomorrow the Spiders host Virginia at 2:30 p.m.
