UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - The University of Richmond women's tennis team dropped its second match in as many days, falling to North Carolina State, 5-2, in a match played at the UR Tennis Complex. Junior Vanessa Bagnato (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) and freshman Lindsay Cox (Finchampstead, Workingham Berks, UK/Edgbarrow) each won their matches in straight sets.
Bagnato continued her solid play, posting a 6-4, 6-3 victory in No. 2 singles over Myrna Bawono. It's the junior's fifth-straight win and it gives her nine for the spring. The only Spider with more victories is Cox, who easily disposed of Kristen Nicholls, 6-2, 6-0, at the No. 3 spot. Cox's record now stands at 10-5.
Three of the four Richmond losses at the other singles spots were in straight sets. The exception was at the No. 1 singles slot where sophomore Jeannette Cluskey (Minneapolis, Minn./Edina) dropped a match decided by a super tie-breaker, 4-6, 6-3, (13-11).
The Wolfpack also swept the Spiders in all three doubles matches.
The loss drops the Spiders to 7-8 on the season. The team returns to action Saturday, March 30 as it hosts the Air Force Academy at 10:00 a.m.
