UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - A brand new state-of-the-art scoreboard adorns the scenic landscape of the UR Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Richmond. Thanks to the generosity of Glenn Cohen and First Market Bank, both players and spectators alike can remain up-to-date with the day's matches as the electronic scoreboard displays six matches at once and the overall score as well.
Director of tennis and women's head coach Steve Gerstenfeld are in agreement that the addition of the scoreboard makes Richmond's facility one of the finest and most technologically advanced in the country.
"What makes our scoreboard truly state-of-the-art is that it is controlled from six different courts by the student-athletes," says Gerstenfeld. "Our players are responsible for keeping their score updated when they change sides by using a numbered keypad. Other electronic scoreboards around the country typically have one person operating it by transferring information from numbered flip cards on the net posts. We've done away with the old-fashioned flip cards, the only thing found on Richmond's net posts are remote controls."
"The addition of the new technology makes our facility one of the most beautiful and fan-friendly venues in college tennis," adds Wesselink. "We are elated at the enhancement and are excited not only for our student-athletes, but for the university as well."
This season, the men's team hosts seven matches while the women play six home contests.
