Vanessa Bagnato Named Player of the Week

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - University of Richmond women's tennis player Vanessa Bagnato (Manhasset, N.Y./Manhasset) was selected as the Atlantic 10 women's tennis Player of the Week for the week ending March 31. The junior went 3-0 at the No. 2 singles position and also picked up wins versus nationally ranked opponents in both singles and doubles action.
Wednesday, Bagnato knocked-off Old Dominion's Lara van Rooyen, ranked #34 in the country, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. She followed that up with straight set wins over Myrna Bawono (N.C. State) and Laura Nigro (Air Force) to extend her winning streak at No. 2 singles to six straight and eight of her past nine. The junior is now 10-6 at the No. 2 spot this spring.
Bagnato also recorded a major victory in doubles action as she teamed with freshman Lindsay Cox (Finchampstead, Workingham Berks, UK/Edgbarrow) to upset the 21st ranked doubles tandem of Radeljevic/Cahana (Old Dominion).
Vanessa and the Spiders (8-8, 2-0) are back in action Friday, April 5, as they host Marshall at 2:30 p.m. at the UR Tennis Complex.
