Women's Lacrosse Drops Bonnies, 18-10

ST BONAVENTURE, N.Y. (April 14) -University of Richmond sophomore Polly Purcell (Ellicott City, Md.) netted six goals and added three assists as the Spiders (9-5 overall) improved to 4-1 in Atlantic 10 play with a 18-10 win over St. Bonaventure on Sunday afternoon at McGraw-Jennings Field. Purcell, the A-10 leader in points, registered a season-best nine on the afternoon brining her career total to 54, a new Richmond record. Senior Alexis Brandolini (Berwyn, Pa.) added four goals and one assist for the Spiders.
The Spiders jumped out to a 2-0 lead after sophomore Jen Cielewich (Severna Park, Md.) converted a free position less than four minutes into the contest. The Bonnies tied the contest at 4-4 after a Tracy Domm goal at the 20:14 mark. Richmond responded netting the next four scores in a eight-minute span with Purcell scoring three and assisting on another during the run. Bona answered with two consective scores in a minute span to pull to within two (8-6). That would be as close as the Bonnies would get. Brandolini and Purcell teamed up on two goals and Purcell scored another unassisted to give the visitors an 11-7 lead at the break.
Richmond began the second half, netting two more scores (Brandolini and Purcell) to lead by six (13-7) with 25 minutes left in the contest. Bonaventure could only get as close as five in the second half as the Spiders picked up the 18-10 road win. The victory was the Spiders fourth straight. Richmond travels to Philadelphia this weekend, April 21 for a 12:00 contest with La Salle.
