No. 24 Baseball Defeats Navy, 15-5, In NCAA Tournament Regional

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The University of Richmond stroked 17 hits in a 15-5 win against Navy in the first game of the Winston-Salem Regional in Winston-Salem, N.C. With the win, Richmond earned its 50th victory of the season.
Junior Mike McGirr threw 8.0 innings and allowed two runs on four hits after carrying a no hitter into the seventh inning. The Lexington, Mass. native earned a win in his 10th consecutive decision.
Junior Vito Chiaravalloti led the offense with seven RBI after going 3-5 with two home runs. His two monster shots increased his total to an Atlantic 10 best 21. The first baseman also scored three times.
Sophomore short stop Matt Craig went 3-3 with four runs scored and two RBI, whle classmate Adam Tidball extended his hit streak to 13 games by going 3-5 with three runs and two RBI. Freshman Brian Ruscello, playing his first game in left field, went 3-4 with an RBI.
Navy's John Cocca (2-4, two RBI) and Brad Hager (2-4, 3 RBI, two runs) led the Midshipmen attack. Starter Rich McDevitt suffered the loss after allowing six runs on seven hits.
The Spiders opened the game with three runs in the first. They followed with a three-run third and six-run fourth to open the lead.
NOTE: Sophomore Matt Craig earned Third Team honors after .371 with 17 homers and 76 RBI.
