#16 Duke Tops Field Hockey

DURHAM, N.C. - The University of Richmond was dominated on the field this afternoon as they were shutout, 6-0, by the Duke Blue Devils. Duke improved to 5-2 on the year, while Richmond's record now stands at 3-5.
The Blue Devils started scoring early when Kim Gogola recorded a goal 15:25 into the contest. Duke took a 2-0 halftime lead after Kim Van Kirk hit the mark with less than two minutes remaining in the first half.
Three Duke players scored four goals in the second half to extend the Blue Devil lead to 6-0. Chrissy Ashley led the way for Duke as she registered two goals and one assist for the game.
Richmond goalie Michelle Swartz (Severna Park, Md.) recorded thirteen saves on the afternoon, including nine in the first half. Duke goalkeepers Erica Perrier and Christy Morgan combined for the Blue Devils second shutout of the season.
The Spiders return to action on Saturday, September 28, when they host James Madison at 1:00 p.m.
