Newark, Del.---Despite two goals from junior Brittney Parrish (Louisville, Ky.), the Spiders were unable to hold onto a second half lead in their 3-2 loss to Villanova.
Parrish scored at the 26:17 mark in the first quarter to give Richmond a 1-0 lead. Her second goal came late in the second half, but Villanova responded and scored two goals in a 48 second span to send the game into the extra stanza.
Villanova earned the victory when freshman Rory Rogers faked Richmond goalkeeper Michelle Swartz to the right and Wildcat junior Christine Lugone was able to tap the ball into the empty net.
Swartz recorded seven saves for the Spiders and Villanova goalkeeper Meghan Helwig made nine saves for the Wildcats.
Richmond's record now stands at 1-1, while Villanova improves to 2-1.
Richmond returns to action tomorrow as they take on the Delaware in the final game of the Blue Hen Classic at 2pm.
