ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Junior Amber Goppert (Malone, N.Y.) recorded the first triple-double in Richmond women's basketball history to lead the Spiders (11-3, 2-1 A-10) to a 72-49 win over St. Bonaventure (4-10, 1-2 A-10) this afternoon at the Reilly Center. The Spiders dominated in the inside game, scoring 44 points in the paint compared to the Bonnies' 14.
Goppert scored the first basket of the game to give the Spiders a lead that they would never relinquish. During the game's opening four minutes, St. Bonaventure kept the lead under four, but Richmond went on an 8-0 scoring run to take its first double-digit lead (10) with 14:17 on the clock. Flavin scored six points, a jumper from the right side and two lay-ups, to help the Spiders take as much as a 20 point advantage. St. Bonaventure closed the half with a 9-0 run, hitting a three-point basket and connecting on six free throws, to reduce the deficit to eleven and set the halftime score at 37-26.
The Bonnies came out of the locker room and cut the lead to 10 before Richmond hit back-to-back three-point baskets that kicked off a 13-2 Spider run. A Flavin lay-up gave Richmond a 22-point lead (57-35) with just over 10 minutes remaining. St. Bonaventure held the Spiders scoreless for the following two minutes to cut the lead to 15 before Richmond cruised to the 72-49 win.
The Spiders shot .554 percent from the field and out-rebounded the Bonnies 36-31.
