Field Hockey Shutouts LaSalle, 2-0, in A-10 action

Philadelphia, PA - In their second Atlantic 10 contest of the weekend, the University of Richmond field hockey team defeated LaSalle University, 2-0, this afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field. The Spiders now post an 11-2 overall record and a 2-0 conference record, while La Salle falls to 7-6 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Despite being held shotless in the first half, the scoring result was the same for both teams: 0-0. Richmond managed to get off 10 shots in the first half but could not connect for a goal.
After the break, La Salle was shut out from getting a shot again, while the Spiders capitalized on their five second half shots. Sophomore Colleen Wevodau drove down the center of the circle and slipped a shot past goalkeeper Colleen Bolger to end the scoring drought and give the Spiders an 1-0 advantage with 22:03 remaining.
With time winding down, Richmond's Whitney Wells was successful on her shot with assistance from Emma Bradley at the 61:23 mark to give the Spiders a 2-0 victory.
The Spiders have shutout six of the last seven teams they have faced.
Richmond returns home Friday, October 17th to face Rhode Island with game time scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
