
Field Hockey Defeats A-10 Opponent Rhode Island

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Sophomore Colleen Wevodau led the University of Richmond field hockey team with two goals, as they defeated Rhode Island, 4-1, in conference action this afternoon at Crenshaw Field.
The Spiders were in control of the game from the beginning with back-to-back goals from Wevodau in the first half. The first goal came at 13:43 when her shot flew past Rams' goalie Danielle Dangoia and into the left corner of the goal. At 15:12, Wevodau tallied her second goal when she was able to get a shot off a deflection by Dangoia.
In the second half, Richmond scored twice more, both off penalty corners. Freshman Inge van Bogerijen scored her sixth goal of the season at 45:15, with assists credited to sophomore Allie Howard and junior Laura Hur. Sophomore Emma Bradley scored the Spiders' final goal at 52:41, with assists from Howard and Bradley.
Rhode Island senior Heather Scherick was able to get the Rams on the scoreboard at 56:27, with an assist from junior Joy Hess.
The Spiders improve to 12-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference, while Rhode Island falls to 6-9 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
Richmond is back in action on Sunday, October 19th hosting Massachusetts with game time scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
