Field Hockey Victorious Over Massachusetts

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Sophomore Allie Howard (Lancaster, Pa.) led the University of Richmond field hockey team with one goal and two assists as they defeated the University of Massachusetts, 5-1, this afternoon at Crenshaw Field.
Freshman Inge van Bogerijen (Zeist, The Netherlands) put the Spiders on the board first with a goal at 8:16, off a penalty corner, with assists credited to junior Laura Hur (Chevy Chase, Md.) and Howard. UMass responded when Jamie Bawden swept a shot past Richmond goalie Michelle Swartz (Severna Park, Md.) at 22:57 into the corner of the goal.
The Spiders went on to score three more times in the first half. Bogerijen recorded her second goal of the game and the game-winner at 27:38 with assists from Howard and Hur. Freshman Heather Wrublesky (Langhorne, Pa.) tallied her first goal of the season at the 28:17 mark. Senior Brittney Parrish (Louisville, Ky.) also scored her first goal of the year off an assist from sophomore Colleen Wevodau (Annville, Pa.) at 30:27.
In the second half, Howard scored the final goal for the Spiders at 40:12. The goal marked her eleventh for the year.
Richmond remains undefeated in the conference, 4-0 and 13-2 overall, while Massachusetts falls to 3-12 overall and 1-2 in the A-10.
The Spiders are back in action on Friday, October 24th hosting Temple University with game time scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
