Sunny Skies Ready, Baseball hosts Princeton in Two Doubleheaders

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - After taking a two-day break, the Spiders return to Pitt Field to host the Tigers of Princeton in a four-game set. Richmond will continue the season, while Princeton opens theirs on Saturday, March 8 at 11:00 a.m. for the first two games. The squads will return on Sunday, March 9 at 11:00 a.m. for the second half of the action.
This will be the first meeting between the Spiders and Tigers in 23 years. The series stands tied at 3-3, but Richmond has swept the last three series (1930, 1979, and 1980).
Below are some Game Notes for the Princeton Series:
IN THE DUGOUT
Richmond extended its winning streak to five before ODU snapped it with an extra inning loss ... The Spiders played five games in four days (Monday - Wednesday) ... Two-time Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, Ben Zeskind launched two home runs in the Old Dominion game ... Freshman Brad Loveless posted his first collegiate start against VMI ...
Five Spiders - Zeskind, Bobby LeNoir, Bryan Pritz, Vito Chiaravalloti, and Jim Fasano - are currently batting over .300 ... Zeskind is leading the Spiders with a .500 batting average and a 1.042 slugging percentage ... In 24 at bats, the third baseman has connected with 12 for two doubles, a triple, and three home runs ... LeNoir is batting .429 and has nine hits with a double and triple on the season ...
Zeskind also leads the squad in RBI's with seven ... Following the stand-out rookie, Pritz and Fasano total six RBI's ... Five of Pritz's came in the Spiders' victory over Kentucky ...
Richmond's ace, Tim Stauffer, threw his first complete game of the season against Virginia ... In the process, he tied his career high 13 strikeouts ... In two starts, Stauffer has a 1-0 decision ... Ranking first on the Spider staff, the junior has fanned 21 batters and walked two.
ROBBING THE BASES
In seven games, the Spiders have stolen eight bases to average 1.14 steals a game. Freshman Ben Zeskind has taken the most, stealing three out of three attempts. Bobby Lenoir and Bryan Pritz has collected one. Richmond's opponents have been successful on the steal only seven times.
HOME RUN DERBY
Four Spiders have belted two or more homers in the first seven games. Freshman Ben Zeskind leads the quartet with three, two of which came against Old Dominion. Seniors Bryan Pritz has launched one over the fence. Of the ten homers, two have been of the three-run variety (Galligan, Fasano) and one has been a two-run homer (Pritz).
ON DECK
Richmond returns to Pitt Field on Wednesday, March 12 against the Tribe of William and Mary. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m. Richmond will continue to stay with-in city limits, playing a three-game set with VCU over the weekend. The away-home-away contest is marked for Friday, March 14 at 4:00 pm., Saturday, March 15 at 1:00 p.m., and Sunday, March 16 at 2:00 p.m.
ATLANTIC 10 ACCOLADES
Since Richmond began the season, a Spider baseball player has received Atlantic 10 honors every week. During the first week (Feb. 24), Ben Zeskind has made his mark tallying consecutive Rookie of the Week honors (Feb. 24 & Mar. 3).
