With the bases loaded in the third, Michael Elko pushed in Dylan Winebrenner with a base hit through the right side. Recio collected his third RBI of the day when he drew a walk to force in Sean Scanlon and push the Spiders lead to 4-0.
JMU got a run back in the fifth, on a sacrifice fly off Richmond reliever Bijan Anvar. Anvar replaced starter Jackson Hinchliffe after he went three and a third of an inning, scattering two hits and a walk with a strikeout. Anvar went two and a third of an inning, allowing one run on one hit and two walks with two strikeouts.
Scanlon led off the fifth with a walk, which was followed by Elko reaching base after getting hit by the ball. With two outs, RJ Rickabaugh laced a double down the left field line to score Scanlon. Chris Schaller picked up his second double of the game to bring in Elko and Rickabaugh and increase Richmond's advantage to 7-1.
Winebrenner launched his second home run of the season to center field to make it 8-1.
