
Lacrosse Suffers 11-6 Loss to Massachusetts

AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Richmond women's lacrosse team was defeated 11-6 by the University of Massachusetts this afternoon at Garber Field. Richmond falls to 7-6 overall and 2-2 in Atlantic 10 play as UMass improves to 7-5 on the season and 3-1 in A-10 action.
Junior Polly Purcell (Ellicott City, Md.) tallied two goals and Katie Dolan (Towson, Md.), Kristen Habicht (Baltimore, Md.), Caroline McGuire (Darien, Conn.) and Jen Cielewich (Severna Park, Md.) each recorded one goal.
Richmond got on the board first in the contest, scoring in the first minute of play when Dolan was able to find the back of the net at the 29:12 mark. This was Richmond's only lead of the contest as UMass went on a 7-2 scoring run to take a 7-3 lead at the halftime break.
The Spiders came out quick in the second half, with goals from McGuire and Cielewich, and cut the deficit to 7-5 with 14:35 remaining in the game. Maura McGarrity answered the Spiders' scoring run with a goal of her own, putting UMass up 8-5 with 9:15 remaining. UMass added two more goals to take a 10-5 advantage before Purcell scored her second goal of the game with 1:43 left in the second half. Lydia Robinson tallied her third goal of the game with 00:00.2 seconds left on the clock to give UMass an 11-6 victory.
Richmond opens a three-game home stand when they host George Washington University on Thursday, April 17 at 3:30 p.m.
