UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Junior Libby Berlacher (Villanova, Pa.) scored five goals to lead the University of Richmond to an 18-5 win over George Washington this afternoon at Lacrosse Field. The Spiders improve to 8-6, 3-2 in conference play while George Washington falls to 6-7, 1-5 in the Atlantic 10.
In addition to Berlacher, six players contributed goals for the Spiders. Junior Polly Purcell (Ellicott City, Md.) recorded four goals and two assists and senior Katie Dolan (Towson, Md.) scored four. Jen Cielewich (Severna Park, Md.), Lexie Elliott (Annapolis, Md.), Kristy Gallagher (Chatsworth, N.J.), Kristen Habicht (Baltimore, Md.) and Caroline McGuire (Darien, Conn.) each tallied one goal.
The Spiders scored four goals, including two from Dolan, in the game's opening 10 minutes to take a 4-0 advantage at the 6:04 point. Richmond added three more tallies before the Colonials got on the scoreboard off a goal from Megan McDonough. Habick earned the ensuing draw control and her goal from the eight-meter mark gave the Spiders an 8-1 lead. Richmond ended the half with three unanswered scores, including Elliott's first career goal, to take an 11-1 advantage at the break.
George Washington's Jamie Lee tallied a goal 10 seconds into the second half but the Spiders rattled off four scores before the Colonials added to their goal total at the 16:11 mark. Berlacher contributed the Spiders' final goal of the afternoon with 10 minutes remaining in the contest and the Colonials scored twice more to set the final margin at 18-5.
Freshman goalkeeper Jennifer McGibbon (Acton, Mass.) recorded five saves in her first collegiate start.
The Colonials were led by Jamie Lee's three goals. Megan McDonough and Erin Berry also registered goals for George Washington.
Richmond hosts La Salle University on Sunday, April 20 at 12:00 p.m.
