No. 17 Baseball Drops One To Towson, 19-10

Towson, Md. - Senior Vito Chiaravalloti (Middletown, N.J.) ripped a two-run homer to break Richmond's career RBI record in the fourth inning, but it was not enough as Towson defeated the Spiders 19-10 at Schuerholz Park. Richmond falls to 27-7, while Towson improved to 17-14.
Chiaravalloti, after today's two-home run performance, has knocked in 26 runs on the year and has amassed 218 RBI during his career. He broke Mike Dwyer's (1996-99) record of 216 RBI.
Richmond scored the first run of the afternoon in the second inning. Catcher Adam Tidball (Bethesda, Md.) stroked a single to score first baseman Jim Fasano (Horsham, Pa.). Towson responded to Richmond's 1-0 lead with at two-run homer by Brian McKenna in its half of the frame. The Tigers then added one more run to take a 3-1 lead.
Towson continued to score, putting up six more runs in the third for a 9-1 lead. Richmond's Fasano hit his second double of the contest to lead off the top of the fourth. Chiaravalloti then launched his first home run of the day, scoring Fasano.
The Tigers responded in their half of the fourth, scoring eight runs to take a 17-3 lead. Richmond attempted to battle back in the fifth, scoring five runs. With two-outs, Fasano belted his 10th home run of the year. Chiaravalloti followed, hitting his second homer of the day. After Michael Galligan (Woodbury, N.Y.) walked and A.J. Board (Raleigh, N.C.) singled up the middle, Tidball sent the fourth Spider home run of the afternoon over the fence.
The Spiders tacked on another run in the eighth. Junior Bryan Pritz (Wilmette, Ill.) reached on an error by McKenna and touched home on a David Reaver (Union Bridge, Md.) double. In the ninth, pinch hitter Jim O'Leary stroked his second career homer.
Richmond's Tim Rice (Brookfield, Conn.) took the loss after striking out four in 2.1 innings. Southpaw Nate Kuchta (Victor, N.Y.) fanned a career-high six Tigers in 3.0 innings of relief work. He allowed five hits and one earned run. Towson's Steve Swiech (1-2) earned the win after 2.1 innings of work in relief.
Tom Trela led the Tigers with four hits while McKenna went three-for-five with four runs scored and two RBIs. Shane Justis also had two hits and scored two runs while Wells had two hits and three runs scored.
Richmond returns to action tomorrow, Wednesday, April 16 at 3 p.m. against the Liberty Flames at Pitt Field.
