Spider Baseball Captures Fourth-Straight A-10 Series with Win Over Dayton

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond baseball team collected a fourth-straight Atlantic 10 Conference series Sunday, after picking up an 11-9 victory at Pitt Field over Dayton.

Richmond, now 22-18 on the season and 10-8 in league play, is back in action Tuesday when the William & Mary Tribe heads to Pitt Field for a midweek contest. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.

Evan Wilson put the Spiders on the board in the second inning with a solo home run, his seventh on the year, to deep right field. With the bases loaded and two outs, Grant Kennedy brought in two runs with a base hit through the infield to put Richmond up 3-0.

After Dayton got a run on the board in the third inning, Chris Schaller hit a three-run home run down the left field line extending Richmond's lead to 6-1. Schaller now has four home runs on the season.

Wilson collected his second RBI of the game with a base hit to left center in the fourth, bringing in Michael Elko from second. Ryan Recio hit his seventh home run of the season in the fifth inning, a two-run blast to deep left field, to give the Spiders a 9-1.

Jackson Hinchliffe went five and two-thirds of an inning on the hill for Richmond. He scattered two runs on five hits, a hit batter and five strikeouts to pick up his third win on the season.

Richmond picked up two more runs in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly and a ground out for an 11-3 lead.

UR used five pitchers to complete the final three and a third of an inning of action. Dayton tallied a run off Aaron Van Tuyle in the sixth, then tagged Dominic Ruggiero for five runs on four hits, two walks, hit batter, a wild pitch and two strikeouts over the eighth and two outs in the ninth. Angel Santiago-Cruz allowed a run, which allowed Dayton within two, 11-9. Dylan Siesky took over on the mound and got the strikeout to end the game.
