PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Senior Vito Chiaravalloti (Middletown, N.J.) ripped a two-run homer to tie Mike Dwyer's career home run record of 55 in Richmond's 6-0 win over La Salle. Chiaravalloti finished the day going 3-for-4 with three RBI. Richmond improves to 29-7, 10-2 Atlantic 10, while La Salle falls to 7-19, 5-7 A-10.
The Spiders scored the first run of the afternoon on a David Reaver (Union Bridge, Md.) two-out double. Reaver placed the ball down the left field line to score catcher Adam Tidball (Bethesda, Md.).
Richmond increased the lead in the fourth inning after Jim Fasano (Horsham, Pa.) walked. Chiaravalloti then ripped a two-run homer to take a 3-0 lead. Designated hitter David Thomas (McLean, Va.) walked and advanced around the bases on wild pitches, before scoring on a wild pitch.
In the sixth, Tidball singled into left center field, advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt, and eventually scored on a passed ball by La Salle catcher Brian Oakes. Richmond added the final run in the seventh frame. Freshman Ben Zeskind (Miami, Fla.) singled to right field. Zeskind then stole second and touched home on Chiaravalloti's single.
Junior hurler Tim Stauffer (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) earned his seventh win after allowing only three hits in 7.0 innings. He fanned 10 Explorers and did not allow a walk. La Salle's Scott Gehringer took the loss, falling to 1-5 on the year.
