UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Junior A.J. Board (Raleigh, N.C.) stroked an RBI single to score David Reaver (Union Bridge, Md.) in the first game to capture a 4-3, 10-inning win against George Washington. In the nightcap, sophomore righty Jason Bolinski (Hockessin, Del.) improved to 8-0 after striking out eight in a complete game. Richmond jumped to a one-run lead in the first game. Centerfielder Bryan Pritz (Wilmette, Ill.) led off with a double to right centerfield. Reaver laid down a sacrifice bunt, but reached base because of a Colonial error. Pritz moved to third on the play.
Freshman Ben Zeskind (Miami, Fla.) sent Reaver home on a groundout for the one-round advantage.
After Spider starter Tim Stauffer breezed through the first six innings, allowing just one hit, the Colonials knotted the game in the seventh. Matt Owens scored on an Anthony Raglini sacrifice fly, and sent the game into extra innings. After a scoreless eighth, George Washington's Raglini hit another sacrifice fly for a 2-1 lead.
The Spiders responded when Vito Chiaravalloti (Middletown, N.J.) led off the ninth with a solo home run to tie the game at 2-2. George Washington took a 3-2 lead in the top of the 10th, scoring on another sacrifice fly.
Richmond sealed the win with two runs in its half for a 4-3 win. Pritz stroked a lead off single, stole second, and advanced to third on a throwing error by the Colonial catcher. Reaver then hit an RBI single to tie the game, 3-3. The Spiders shortstop worked his way around the bases, stealing second and taking third on a wild pitch. Board then drove in Reaver for the game-winning run.
In the second game, Pritz led off the first with another double, this time to left field. Reaver sent Pritz to third and Zeskind scored the centerfielder on an error on a sacrifice bunt.
George Washington responded, adding a run on a Chris Barry double. Richmond did not rest, adding two more in the its half of the second frame for a 3-1 advantage. Chiaravalloti drew a walk and advanced to second and third on wild pitches. Tidball then reached first after being hit by Colonial pitcher Greg Conden. With two-outs, second baseman Bobby LeNoir (Wilmington, Del.) ripped a triple to send Chiaravalloti and Tidball home for the lead.
In the fourth inning, George Washington added a run on Ryan Roberson groundout double play. The Colonials threatened again in the seventh with runners at the corners. Brad Rosenblat laid down a bunt toward the third base side, which Bolinski fielded and tossed to Tidball, tagging out the runner at home.
Richmond's Tim Stauffer (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) improved to 8-2 with his ninth complete game and second extra inning win in game one. Richmond's ace struck out 11 while allowing only three hits. Bolinski improved to a perfect 8-0 in his fourth complete game. He struck out eight while allowing only four hits. George Washington's Nick Koken (3-4) and Greg Conden (6-4) took the losses.
