
Richmond Field Hockey Defeats #13 William & Mary

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, VA - Freshman Inge van Bogerijen (Zeist, The Netherlands) scored two goals to lead the University of Richmond field hockey team to a 4-1 victory over William & Mary this afternoon at Crenshaw Field. The last time the Spiders defeated The Tribe was in 1993, 1-0, at home.
Bogerijen scored off a penalty corner at the 24:33 mark with assists from sophomores Allie Howard (Lancaster, Pa.) and Michelle La Force (Centreville, Va.) to give the Spiders a 1-0 lead.
William & Mary senior Kelly McQuade answered at 34:40 with a goal off a penalty corner, to tie up the game. Assists were credited to senior Kelli Duggan and junior Tiffany Reeves.
In the second half, Richmond scored twice within two and a half minutes. The first came at 33:17 with Bogerijen scoring off a penalty corner, with assists from Howard and junior Laura Hur (Chevy Chase, Md.). The second happened after The Tribe goalie, Stacy Gaenzle, came out of the box and Emma Bradley's (Kybybolite, South Australia) shot was reflected off the goal post, giving sophomore Whitney Wells (Clayton, Del.) the open shot and goal.
Sophomore Bradley scored the final goal, off a breakaway at the 65:57 mark, with an assist from Wells.
The Spiders improve to 4-1 and William & Mary fall to 3-3.
Richmond is back in action on Friday, September 19th against Harvard University. The game will be played in Williamsburg, Va., with game time scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
