Field Hockey Knocks Off #12 Virginia

Charlottesville, Va. -- The 16th ranked University of Richmond field hockey team defeated #12 Virginia with the only goal of the game by sophomore Allie Howard, this evening in Charlottesville, Va.
The Cavaliers (5-3) and the Spiders (7-1) battled to a 0-0 tie at the break. In the second half, Howard dribbled down the right center and rifled a shot that found the boards 12:46 into the period. Her goal stood as the only marker in the game as the Spiders went on to win the contest, 1-0.
Richmond outshot the Cavaliers 14-5. Sophomore goalie Michelle Swartz recorded her second shutout of the season and tallied one save.
The Spiders return to action on Friday, September 26th when they face Towson with game time scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
