Towson, Md. - Sophomore goalkeeper Michelle Swartz made two saves and posted her third consecutive shutout to the lead the University of Richmond (8-1) to its sixth win in a row, a 2-0 victory over Towson University (5-3) at Minnegan Field at Johnny Unitas Stadium on Friday night.
Ranked 16th in NCAA Division I this week, the Spiders had shut out 15th-ranked Indiana and 12th-ranked Virginia earlier this week. Swartz, whose sister Emily plays at Towson, handed Towson its first shutout in ten games, a streak that dates back to last season. Emily Swartz did not play against the Spiders due to a foot injury that has sidelined her for the last week.
Richmond jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead just 3:10 into the game as sophomore Emma Bradley scored her fourth goal of the season off a penalty corner. Junior Laura Hur and sophomore Allie Howard assisted on the goal.
Howard, who scored the game-winning goal in Richmond's 1-0 win over Virginia on Wednesday night, upped the Spiders' lead to 2-0 at the 28:39 mark.
The Spiders held Towson to a seasonal low five shots while taking 14 shots. Richmond's victory ended the Tigers' two-game winning streak.
Richmond returns to action Sunday, September 28th when they travel to face James Madison, game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
