Field Hockey's Win Streak is Broken

HARRISONBURG, Va. - Despite a late second half goal by sophomore Allie Howard to send the game into overtime, the University of Richmond field hockey team fell to James Madison University this afternoon, 3-2.
JMU (3-8) took an early lead after senior Lindsey Keller opened the scoring at 21:41 of the first half. Keller corralled a rebound off a Baillie Versfeld shot and pushed it past Richmond sophomore goalkeeper Michelle Swartz.
The Spiders (8-2) tied the game at one as sophomore Colleen Wevodau scored unassisted at 59:52.
JMU would regain the lead less than five minutes later as Versfeld scored off a penalty corner at 64:45. Red-shirt senior Dana Weaver and senior Amy Cordes picked up assists on the goal. The Spiders would even the game as Howard scored off a penalty corner at 67:52. Assists were credited to Laura Hur and Emma Bradley.
In the second overtime, JMU's Versfeld connected on the game-winner, with Weaver and Cordes picking up assists.
Richmond returns to action on Saturday, October 4th when they travel to face Appalachian State at 7:30 p.m.
