
Richmond Field Hockey Falls to Lafayette in Overtime

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, VA - Despite a late second-half goal by Spider freshman Amanda Florio (Flemington, N.J.), the University of Richmond suffered a 3-2 overtime loss to Lafayette College this afternoon at Crenshaw Field.
Spider sophomore Michelle La Force (Centerville, Va.) scored her first goal of the season at the 10:32 point to give Richmond a 1-0 lead in the first half. The goal came off an assist from freshman Inge van Bogerijen (Zeist, The Netherlands).
The Leopards responded in the second half with back-to-back goals from senior Jennifer Stone. The first goal, at the 51:57 point, came off a penalty corner and assists were credited to senior Meredith Hahn and sophomore Kathleen Gallagher. The second goal at the 66:27 mark was an unassisted shot past Richmond goalie Michelle Swartz (Severna Park, Md.) into the left corner of the cage.
Florio scored her first career goal as a Spider at the 67:23 mark and sent the game into overtime. Van Bogerijen was credited with her second assist of the game.
In overtime, Lafayette junior Melissa Farrand scored off an assist from Hahn at the 71:52 point to end the game.
Richmond record falls to 2-1, while Lafayette stands at 2-3.
Richmond returns to action on Wednesday, September 10th when they travel to Williamsburg, Va. to face Stanford with game time scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
