After exchanging leads for the first ten minutes of play, the Spiders went on a 16-2 scoring run and took a ten-point lead at the 5:29 mark off a lay-up from Flavin. After shooting 50.0% in the first half, Richmond held a 42-26 lead at the break.
The Dukes cut the lead to single digits in the opening minutes of the second half as they hit five of their first six shots. At the 14:45 mark, a lay-up from Futrell got the Dukes within eight but Richmond scored seven unanswered points and rebuilt the lead to double-figures.
Richmond took its largest lead of the game (31) with two and half minutes remaining off a pair of free throws from Campion.
Richmond dominated on the boards, grabbing 43 rebounds to the Dukes' 25.
