UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Spider Field Hockey's junior Holly Cram and freshman Shannon Taylor earned the team's 11th and 12th weekly Atlantic 10 honor of 2004, after being named Player and Rookie of the Week by league officials, Monday.
Cram, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, has now been honored four times as the league's Player of the Week, including a current streak of three consecutive weeks. Taylor, a native of Midlothian, Va., has won three Rookie of the Week honors from the A-10 since her first came Sept. 13.
Cram tallied a total of eight points over the weekend, helping No. 11 Richmond to its third-consecutive undefeated conference regular season. The midfielder recorded two goals against Rhode Island, including the Spiders' fastest goal of the season (00:30) for the game-winner. One day later she notched two more, including the game-winner, against UMass.
She now ranks tied for Richmond's single-season goals lead with 22 in 2004. Her four goals this weekend moved her points total to 51 on the season which places her atop the school's single-season points list. Each record (points and goals) was held by Dawn Reyerson, who scored 22 goals and recorded 50 points during the 1993 season.
Taylor, who ranks third on the squad with a total of eight goals and 19 points, was responsible for two goals over the weekend. Taylor logged three shots in Richmond's 3-0 weekend-opening win at Rhode Island Saturday. She then posted two goals on four shots in the 7-0 win at UMass.
Her two-goal game against the Minutewomen was her second of the season and first since Richmond's opening-day 12-0 win over Monmouth. The freshman forward now has nine points over the Spiders' last four matches.
11th-ranked Richmond, which extended its conference win streak to 22 with the two weekend wins, wrap up the regular season Saturday, Oct. 30 at Crenshaw Field. The Spiders will honor seniors Danica Haupt and Laura Hur in Senior Day festivities prior to the 2:30 p.m. scheduled contest against Appalachian State.
