Women's Basketball Falls To Saint Joseph's

PHILADELPHIA (2/1/04) ? PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Despite a 23-point performance from junior Kate Flavin (Engelwood, Colo.), the University of Richmond suffered its third consecutive loss, falling to Saint Joseph's 58-48 today at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse. The Hawks improve to 12-6, 7-1 in the conference while Richmond drops to 13-7, 5-4 in the A-10.
Flavin was the only Richmond player to reach double-digits in the scoring column. Senior Amber Goppert (Malone, N.Y.) grabbed nine rebounds and dished out five assists.
Stephanie Graff led the Hawks with 17 points and 16 rebounds.
Richmond held a slight advantage during the game's opening minutes before Saint Joseph's took its first lead off a fast-break lay-up from Irina Krasnoshiok. The Spiders went six minutes without a basket while the Hawks built a ten-point advantage.
Sophomore Alison Mitchell's (Annandale, Va.) short jumper ended the Spiders' dry spell with just over two minutes remaining in the half. Richmond ended the half with a 5-0 scoring run that set the halftime score at 26-23.
The Hawks rebuilt a double-digit lead as the Spiders scored just three baskets in the half's first ten minutes. Saint Joseph's hit its last field goal of the game at the 7:55 point and scored its last 18 points from the free throw line.
The Spiders were outrebounded 48-34 on the boards as the Hawks grabbed 18 offensive boards.
Richmond is back in action at the Robins Center on Sunday, February 8 when they host George Washington at 2 p.m.
