Women's Basketball Downs Flyers 67-44

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. - Four players scored in double-figures to lead the University of Richmond women's basketball team to a 67-44 victory over Dayton tonight at the Robins Center. With the win, the Spiders ended their four-game losing streak and improve to 14-8, 6-5 in the conference while the Flyers lost their seventh straight, falling to 3-20, 1-11 in the A-10.
Junior Kate Flavin led the Spiders with 19 points and nine rebounds in just 27 minutes of play. In addition to her 11 points, senior Amber Goppert contributed a season-high nine assists and five steals. Sophomore Alison Mitchell and freshman Christina Campion added 12 and 10 respectively.
Jennifer Strong led Dayton with 15 points and Angela Cape recorded a double-double with ten points and ten rebounds.
The Flyers held an 8-4 advantage, their only lead of the game, five minutes into the contest as the Spiders missed five of their first seven shot attempts. Richmond scored eight unanswered points and held a 12-8 lead with 11:43 remaining in the half. After a four game drought from beyond the arc, sophomore Araceli Gil hit a three point basket to put the Spiders up 17-10 just a minute later.
Saona Chapman stole the ball and hit a lay-up at the 6:14 point to give the Spiders' their first double-digit lead of the game (11). Richmond's Goppert ended the half with an end-to-end lay-up that put the Spiders ahead 35-19 at the break.
The Spiders held a 15+ point lead for the entire second half, taking their largest lead of the game (26) off Mitchell's jumper with just under four minutes on the clock.
The Spiders out-rebounded Dayton 38-30 and grabbed 13 offensive boards.
Richmond recorded 18 steals and dished out 20 assists.
The Spiders are back at the Robins Center on Sunday afternoon when they host Xavier at 2:00 p.m.
